Who can participate?

In order to vote in Montana, you must be:

    • A U.S. citizen;
    • A resident of Montana; and
    • If you have been convicted of a felony, your voting rights will be automatically restored after your release from incarceration.
      At least 18 years old by June 2, 2020.

Where and when do I vote?

Due to Covid-19, all in-person voting has been cancelled. All registered voters will automatically be sent a mail-in ballot.

How do I register to vote for Bernie?

If you miss the May 4 voter registration deadline, you can still register to vote by visiting your county election office in person from Monday through Friday between 8am and 5pm. “Late registration” will be available from May 5 through the close of polls on June 2, 2020.

Do I have to be a registered Democrat to vote for Bernie?

No, you do not need to be a registered Democrat in order to vote for Bernie. When you vote, simply vote on the Democratic party’s ballot.

How do I vote by mail?

Any registered voter can vote by mail. Click here for more information on voting by mail.

Requesting your vote-by-mail ballot:

        • The deadline to request an absentee ballot is 12pm on June 1, 2020.
        • Fill out this form and return it to your local election authority. The address of your local election authority is listed at the end of the form.
        • If you drop off your absentee ballot request form, you will be able to pick up your ballot in person.

Returning your vote-by-mail ballot:

        • The deadline to return your completed absentee ballot to your local election authority is 8pm on June 2, 2020. You can mail back your completed ballot or drop it off in person.

Do I need to bring my ID?

Yes, you are required to bring an ID when voting. Acceptable IDs include a valid driver’s license, school photo ID, or current utility bill. For a full list of acceptable IDs, please see here.

If you don’t have your ID when voting, you will be allowed to cast a provisional ballot.

What is provisional voting?

If your name does not appear on the voter list, if you do not have a photo ID with you, or if the poll workers question your eligibility for any reason, do not give up voting for Bernie!

First, make sure you are at the right polling location. If you are at the wrong polling location and are able, make sure you get to your assigned polling location.

If it’s confirmed that you are at the right polling place but your name isn’t on the voter list, ask for a provisional ballot! You have the right to cast a provisional ballot even if your name isn’t on the voter list. It will be counted after the election official determines that you were eligible to vote.

Can I bring anyone to help me? Can I bring an interpreter?

Yes! You have the right to bring someone into the voting booth to help you vote, as long as they do not represent your employer or union. You can bring a relative, a friend or anyone else you trust.

In addition, every polling place is required to be accessible and have voting systems that allow voters with disabilities to vote independently and privately.
