Where and when do I vote?

You can find your polling location here. Polling places will be open from 6:30am to 7:30pm on Primary Election Day. Anyone in line by 7:30pm polls close will be allowed to vote!

Do I have to be a registered Democrat to vote for Bernie?

The deadline to register to vote for Bernie Sanders in West Virginia has PASSED.

How do I vote by mail?

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, West Virginians are encouraged to vote by mail as a health precaution. To track how the Secretary of State is keeping voters safe, please see here.

All registered voters will automatically receive the application to request a vote-by-mail ballot. The application should arrive by the week of April 6. June 3 is the deadline to request a vote-by-mail ballot.

If you never receive your application to vote by mail, you can still request a mail ballot:

  • Fill out this form and check the first box “illness, injury or other medical reason which keeps me confined” as your reason for requesting.
  • Return it to your county clerk’s office via email, mail, fax, or dropping it off in-person.

Returning your vote-by-mail ballot:

  • June 9 is the deadline to postmark your completed mail ballot. Postage will be prepaid!
  • June 8 is the deadline to return your completed mail ballot in person to your county clerk’s office

For more information on voting by mail, click here.

Can I vote early?

Early voting is available from May 27 to June 6 during normal business hours and Saturdays from 9am to 5pm at your county’s designated early voting location. Please check with your county clerks’ office for the exact time and location to vote early. You can also search for your voting location here.

Do I need to bring my ID?

Yes, you are required to bring a form of ID when voting. Acceptable forms of ID include West Virginia driver’s licenses, U.S. passports, bank or debit cards, and recent utility bills. For a full list of acceptable IDs please click here

You can also get a free voter ID card at your county clerk’s office. If you do not have an ID when voting, you can still vote a provisional ballot.

What is provisional voting?

If your name does not appear on the voter list, if you do not have a photo ID with you, or if the poll workers question your eligibility for any reason, do not give up voting for Bernie!

First, make sure you are at the right polling location. If you are at the wrong polling location and are able, make sure you get to your assigned polling location.

If it’s confirmed that you are at the right polling place but your name isn’t on the voter list, ask for a provisional ballot! You have the right to cast a provisional ballot even if your name isn’t on the voter list. It will be counted after the election official determines that you were eligible to vote.

Can I bring anyone to help me? Can I bring an interpreter?

Yes! You have the right to bring someone into the voting booth to help you vote, as long as they do not represent your employer or union. You can bring a relative, a friend or anyone else you trust.

In addition, every polling place is required to be accessible and have voting systems that allow voters with disabilities to vote independently and privately.
